FAQ
What materials and plating are used in these MXT series soldering tips?
We use high-purity copper cores with a multi-layer system: iron plating (improves quality and wear resistance), nickel plating (rust and corrosion protection), and chrome plating (prevents tin creep and provides additional corrosion resistance). This combination is specifically engineered for lead-free soldering.
Do you offer custom MXT tip shapes, lengths, or plating specifications?
Yes. As a custom soldering tip manufacturer, we can modify tip geometry (chisel, conical, bent, knife, hoof), total length (outside 33mm), or plating thickness for aggressive flux or higher-temperature applications. Provide a drawing, original sample, or intended application – our engineering team will advise. Custom orders require minimum quantity – contact our sales team.
What is the exact length? Which Weller stations are compatible?
Total length: 33mm. Our MXT series lead-free soldering tip is compatible with Weller WSD71 stations and WSP70 soldering pencils, as well as other Weller stations that accept standard MXT series cartridges. Confirm your station’s compatibility before ordering.
How does service life compare to original Weller MXT tips, especially for lead-free soldering?
Under identical lead-free soldering conditions (350-380°C, continuous use with proper maintenance), our multi-layer plated tips deliver comparable or longer life – typically 12,000 to 20,000 solder joints depending on tip shape, solder alloy, and flux chemistry. The nickel and chrome layers provide superior corrosion protection. We recommend a side-by-side trial on your bench to verify performance.
How should we maintain these tips for maximum life in lead-free soldering?
Keep the tip tinned when the iron is idle (use station sleep mode if available)
Clean with brass wire or a damp sponge – avoid abrasive files or tip cleaners
Lead-free solders require higher temperatures – use the lowest effective temperature for your application
Replace immediately if the tip becomes pitted, deformed, or cannot wet properly
Store unused tips in a dry, anti-static container to prevent oxidation
For high-volume repair centers, schedule weekly tip inspections
We supply detailed maintenance guides with bulk orders. For WSD71 and WSP70 stations, proper tip tinning before first use is essential to activate the multi-layer plating for optimal solder flow.
